AGN Assembly Postponement Announcement

The board of the African Grantmakers Network (AGN) announced on August 25, 2014 the postponement of the 3rd AGN Assembly that was due to take place from 17th – 19th November 2014 in Accra, Ghana. This will now take place in the second half of 2015.

The announcement by the board explains that the postponement has become necessary due to the Ebola outbreak in a few countries in West Africa (Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone with a few cases reported in a small, contained area of Lagos, Nigeria) and national control responses. The Government of Ghana has issued a directive for a moratorium on all international conferences to be held in Ghana over the next 3 months (September – November 2014) as an Ebola prevention measure. Airlines are reviewing their flight scheduling to various destinations in West Africa in response to the outbreak, while the latest announcement by the Word Health Organisation (WHO) indicates that it will take up to 6 months to bring the outbreak in the region under control. In view of these circumstances the AGN Board felt it had little option but to postpone the conference to such time as the moratorium is lifted and the outbreak contained.

In solidarity with the people of West Africa, the AGN Board has elected to maintain Accra, Ghana as the venue for the 3rd Assembly. The board will monitor Ebola control responses over the next two months and announce the new dates for the Assembly at that point.

The AGN will arrange full refunds to all registered participants who may require these.
