PRE Report: Sustaining Racial Justice Action in Philanthropy: Ferguson & Beyond

The Philanthropic Initiative for Racial Equity in the US has released a new paper, “Sustaining Racial Justice Action in Phianthropy: Ferguson & Beyond,” based on a convening of activists and funders, in which they looked at questions of how to address the recent tragedies in the US related to the killing of Michael Brown, Eric Garner and others – and the role of philanthropy in ensuring that needed racial justice organizing and infrastructure work continues and is strongly supported so organizations and communities can effectively and proactively respond when there are racialized flashpoints.  It outlines challenges that must be addressed and highlights comments by activists and funders that might function as a tool to keep conversations alive among foundation staff and trustees.
